Suites chromatiques
About This Project
Description
At the invitation of the cultural department of the University of Versailles/Saint-Quentin, visual artist Ségolène Perrot created “Suites Chromatiques,” a visual journey connecting the buildings of the Saint-Quentin-en-Yvelines campus through a series of colorful window decals.
These compositions, installed on the bay windows of the University Library, the Student Union, and the glass roof of the University lobby, are inspired by musical notation. The shape and arrangement of the colors are inspired by “neumes,” the ancestors of musical notes, which were originally square.
Made from six shades of MACcrystal 8400 vinyl, the window decals interact with the architecture and transform the light according to the time of day and the seasons. They invite visitors to rediscover the campus through chromatic variations that oscillate between subtle vibrations and intense bursts of color. On sunny days, the rays projected onto the floors and walls create veritable frescoes of light in spectacular colors, an effect made possible by the transparency of MACcrystal 8400 films.
The creation of the window decals for the glass roof, located more than 8 meters above the ground, required the use of a cherry picker, a skill that the artist has added to his repertoire!
